Description

Doxepin is a tricyclic antidepressant formulated as a mixture of E-(trans) and Z-(cis) stereoisomers. It inhibits activity in vivo.

In vitro

Doxepin inhibits the reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine. Its actions of the reuptake of dopamine are negligible. Doxepin also has antagonistic effects at a variety of receptors including receptors of H1, H2, 5-HT1, 5-HT2, α1-adrenergic and mACh.
