Description

(-)-Epicatechin gallate (ECG) is an inhibitor of with IC50 of 7.5 μM.

In vitro

Treatment of HuH7 cells with (–)-Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) causes a time- and dose-dependent decrease in the expression of VEGFR-2 and p-VEGFR-2 proteins. EGCG effectively suppresses the growth of HuH7 human HCC cells both in vitro and in vivo. EGCG potently modulates cardiac excitation contraction coupling by acting on RyR and possibly on L-type Ca2+-channel and NaCa exchanger.

In vivo

Drinking of EGCG significantly inhibits the growth of HuH7 xenografts in nude mice and this is associated with inhibition of the activation of VEGFR-2 and its related downstream signaling molecules, including ERK and Akt. EGCG drinking also decreases the expression of Bcl-xL protein and VEGF mRNA in the xenografts.
